Remote analysis of a distributed WLAN using passive wireless-side measurement

چکیده
This paper presents network traffic measurements from a campus-wide wireless LAN (WLAN), with the data collected using remote passive wireless-side measurement. We used commercially-available monitoring devices to collect wireless traffic concurrently from 9 selected locations on the campus WLAN for 6 weeks. The aggregate trace contains almost 1 billion wireless frames, representing the WLAN activity generated by 6775 users and 97 access points. Analysis of the dataset identifies similarities and differences in the user behaviours across the observed WLAN locations, as well as emerging trends in WLAN usage regarding application usage and session mobility. Our study extends existing WLAN measurement studies by providing deeper insights into howWLANs are used, and by developing models of WLAN usage characteristics that are applicable in capacity planning, network testing, and network simulation studies. c © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Implementation of a CAN/IEEE 802.11b WLAN/CAN internet working system using a wireless interface unit
This paper presents a sample design and implementation of a CAN/WLAN/CAN interworking system using Wireless Interworking Units (WIU) that are capable of connecting remote CAN 2.0A nodes over IEEE 802.11b WLAN. This provides a straightforward solution to extend the size of distributed area of CAN networks and enables the CAN networks to communicate with other LANs utilising a low cost technology...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Wireless Network Measurement Control System using Matlab/Simulink
Traditional network control system offers many advantages but requires cables to inter-connect devices, which leads to high installation and maintenance costs due to low scalability and high failure rate of connectors. As a result, wireless technologies have gained an enormous success in the consumer goods industry in the last few years. Wireless Networked Measurement Control System (WNMCS) is ...
متن کاملOutlier Detection in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Distributed Principal Component Analysis
Detecting anomalies is an important challenge for intrusion detection and fault diagnosis in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). To address the problem of outlier detection in wireless sensor networks, in this paper we present a PCA-based centralized approach and a DPCA-based distributed energy-efficient approach for detecting outliers in sensed data in a WSN. The outliers in sensed data can be ca...
متن کاملLarge-scale Wireless Local-area Network Measurement and Privacy Analysis
The edge of the Internet is increasingly becoming wireless. Understanding the wireless edge is therefore important for understanding the performance and security aspects of the Internet experience. This need is especially necessary for enterprise-wide wireless localarea networks (WLANs) as organizations increasingly depend on WLANs for missioncritical tasks. To study a live production WLAN, esp...
متن کاملDual-Band Evanescent-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide Band-pass Filter for WLAN Applications
A new multi-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure is developed to design dual-band evanescent-mode band-pass filters (BPFs). Two independent series LC circuits are implemented by incorporating metallic irises in the different layers of the structure. The combination of the metallic irises with capacitive-plates is embedded inside the SIW to independently excite two evane...
